Ok so I'm pretty new to the 96-00 civic personally like the 92-95...my question is there really any benefit to adding a air intake and exhaust to my d16y7? Seems more like a head ache then anything

Not really. The intake/exhaust will add as much benefit from putting them on as making your wallet lighter from buying them. D series dont respond that well to bolt ons.

Best bang for your buck on that engine is a trans from a D16Z6 or D16Y8 car (92-00 Si/EX, 96-00 EX). Then maybe the VTEC head conversion.

 

Swap to a better motor, or do the trans/VTEC head then boost.

 

I converted mine to manual, and threw on the z6 tranny along with y8 intake manifold. Flop until like 3.x rpms. Tranny wakes it right up!

 

I have the option if buying a full h22 swap minus the axles and mounts or a b16 swap. I would have to put the h22 back together but does have a lot of Ayer market upgrades for it..the b16 ready to go..either would run me 1500 just can't decide..might just stay stock with this one

 

With the combo of the two you'd see minimal power gains, and it is not really worth it unless you plan on building the motor some point down the road and plan to boost it. Taking the factor of power out, adding an air intake can yield higher mpg with all around driving as it helps the motor breathe a bit easier. Some may disagree, but I've always seen first hand adding an air intake w/ an open element filter yielding 2-3 mpg and sometimes more depending on the motor. Just my .02

 

Save your money and get a better motor. I have seen a few y7's that had some *****, but was alot of money and effort to get there. Not worth it.

A b16 is a good step up from someone not too familiar with honda's and are use to driving around stock single cams.
