How to get the most out of an automatic vtec?
Hell i have well gonna have a full d16y8 engine , i have a y8 block with a y7 head but i just bought a y8 head so soon ill have a full y8, anyways its an automatic and yes i know i need to go stick and i will as soon as i get the money but for now i have a automatic and i know vtec doesnt kick in tell higher rpms so maybe if i drive in a lower gear like D2 or D3 i can get the most out of it, any advice besides go stick, thank you
the problem you'll run into is that you can't run the y8 vtec ecu with your setup. the tcu is integrated in the ecu, and the y7/y8 transmissions are not the same. unless you convert to 5 speed or swap transmissions, no vtec for you.
why not?ive done all my homework on the swap, ive ordered the p2p obd2a ecu already and got all the connections i need and wires to extend the wires, the other post i made noone said i couldnt

The TCU is integrated into the ECU. The TCU controls the transmission. It expects the gear ratios for the transmission that came originally equipped with that ECU. An EX ECU cannot properly control a DX/LX transmission, and will throw a CEL because of it. A DX/LX ECU cannot properly control an EX transmission, and will throw a CEL because of it. For autotragic Civics, you HAVE to match the ECU to the transmission.
is there a way to check the trassmisson and see what model it is?the previous owner rebuilt the whole engine and had a full y8 but never put the head cause it was for the wife, anyway is there any marks on the trassmisson thatll tell me what kinda it is?
If you clean it off, there should be a casing code on it somewhere. If memory serves, it'll either be an A000 or B000, or something similar. Assuming your CEL isn't on right now, and you're running a DX/LX ECU, you have a DX/LX transmission.
