I just noticed this a few days ago.

But why does the radiator fan on the passenger side of the engine turn on and off when I turn the engine off?

After I turn the car off the fan will come on for 1 minute at the most, then shut off for about 30 seconds, then come back on. It keeps doing that but eventually stops.

I heard somewhere that the fan is suppose to come on (don't know where I heard it), does anyone know if it's true or is this a problem.

The engine has never overheated and the temp has always been normal.

I just never heard the fan turn off and on before.

 

It's normal and designed to do that. Nothing to be worried about. I'm guessing you're in hot weather.

 

Right now we're having very cold weather (I'm in Ontario, Canada)... and that's part of the reason I wasn't sure if it's normal. I don't even remember hearing in the summer. But heard it was normal. I just want to be sure.

 

In those temps,,,,,have you checked the coolant level?

 

your fans will turn on when the car is off if its still hot , in example turbo'd cars turbo still run for a minute after you turn them off

 

While that is almost a true statement (only ONE fan runs when the car is OFF), if I'm in Canada this time of the year and I shut my Accord off, in or around this generation, and the fan comes on.....something is not right. I'd guess the high temps there are less than 40F.
