95 Nissan Maxima, does it have a coil on each cylinder?
My son has a '95 Maxima. I am not familiar with Nissan cars but I generally have more automotive knowledge than my son, who lives in another state. Based on what I've heard or otherwise learned, the Maxima has a coil on each cylinder, as opposed to one coil for the whole ignition system.
My son was told by a mechanic that a coil is bad but the mechanic said he could not determine which one was bad because his electronic diagnostic device would not work with a '95 Maxima; perhaps this was due to the age of the car.
First, can someone confirm that this car has a coil on each cylinder? And, second, if that is correct, can the faulty coil be identified by some method not requiring electronic diagnostic equipment? For example, could it be identified by disconnecting one plug wire at time and observe the affect on the engine?
Also, is replacement of one coil that is determined to be bad a feasible solution, as opposed to replacing all of them?
