So as much as I want to go to Expo, I dont know how I feel about making the 1,600 mile trip each way. And Im sure others feel the same. Some I know are traveling from super far away and I think that is awesome and great really shows the capability of the amazing caRs.
I know there are a bunch of us scattered through the East Coast/New England Region and was thinking of looking into trying to get some kind of meet or possibly even a track day put together. I know that Limerock Park, Watkins Glen, and NJ Motorsports park ALL have HPDE events open this year with classes 1-4. Some of you may know of the All Things Proper / SHG BBQ that usually happens twice a year also at Baird Park in NY. There is the car show in Carlisle that we could all meet and try to group at as well.
I'm up for getting information together and calling a few places to see if we could put something together IF there is enough interest. Monticello just built an amazing park. That would be a pretty penny per driver if we even had enough for it. lol.
Trying to gauge interest on it and see if this is worth chasing. Anyone who has any other ideas, please chime in!

I know a lot of guys are completely against it(because of what happened years ago), but an event at Summit or Slummit as some lovingly refer to it as would be a blow out. I think NJMP would be equally successful. There are a lot of non-itr owners in this area as well as up and down the east coast with track cars that would love to attend such an event(my father and I included).
Hmm, you guys should have come out to Expo at Mid-Ohio last year. I'm all for getting more ITRs out on track, regardless of where and when (or the event).
Expo is different from a standard HPDE event though. This year we'll have some rather prominent guests from the Acura/HPD world, including Peter Cunningham from RealTime. We tend to bounce between the midwest and east coast every year or two. 2011 - 2013 were east or centrally located between the east and midwest with Mid-Ohio and CMP. We have not had good luck on the west coast, but I'd love to see that happen someday.
Regardless, getting more people involved in the world of track events is a good thing to me. I would be wary of organizing event and instead, piggyback onto an existing event to save yourself the liability and headache. I'm sure you can find something with another group in the NE easily.
The distance to Expo is a once a year thing. I'll do all I can to make it worth the trip.
Contact me with any questions...

Lately, we're shooting for some bucket list tracks. Mid-Ohio and Road America are good examples. It would be great someday at places like Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca, etc. Unfortunately, all four of those are very expensive.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but organizing a track event sucks. You'll find that a little bit of a drive to expo will be infinitely easier in comparison. And a hell of a lot more enjoyable.
The expo gang is not 'me first' and you'll find that most people who have attended would say that the journey to/from expo with old/new friends is just as much fun as the actual event.
My favorite expos were the ones farther from home (3/4 at BeaveRun, 5 at MAM, 7 at VIR, 12/13 and Mid-Ohio, all between 400 and 800 miles away). Sure, that isn't as far as some travel, but I'm sure those people who have traveled obscene distances can chime in...
I'd much prefer the travel over having expo at home (i.e., Gman, Autobahn or Road America) Although, going to a track like Road America is something no one should miss, so, yea, come to expo this year. How anyone can pass over RA, Mid-ohio, or VIR bc its 'too far' is beyond me. does not compute.
The endless discussion (every year since i've been on h-t, there's been a ton of expo threads about the location being unfavorable, by those who haven't gone before, so.... 12 yrs) about having expo nearby is so tiresome. After your first expo, you have an entirely different view of the travel/distance/experience.

I'm in Jersey and would love to participate in something like this, especially since EXPO seems out of the question for me again this year. I know a few other R owners who would be down as well.
It'd be cool to keep it ITR exclusive though.

Id definitely be interested in attending this kind of event.

So I just got off the phone with one of my friends who is a Member at Monticello. He's got a pretty damn good foot in the door over there. He is a car salesman who has gotten so many of his clients to sign up for memberships that they GAVE him a track membership. He said he is going to call the track director and give him some details of what were possibly trying to do.
I told him we would potentially/hopefully be 20+ ITR's to rent track use for the day. Being a private track, I don't see how they wouldnt want to make $10k+ for using the track on a day they dont have anything scheduled. FOR ONE DAY. Even if we have a few caravan laps, that would put a big *** smile on my face. Do I need to be ***** to the wall? hell no. Again, this is me, an enthusiast acting like its just "open the gate and go on the track". OBVIOUSLY there is ton more involved than that. Waiver forms, insurance, regulations, safety equipment/inspections etc etc.
Lets see what kind of response we get....

The tracks website for those interested.
http://www.monticellomotorclub.com/
Seems they are pretty accommodating for things like group/club/corporate events.
fingers crossed.

I knew as soon as i saw this thread that it would turn into 'just go to expo'. The fact is its just not logistically possible for all of us (work schedule, money, other summer obligations/conflicts,etc) The purpose of this thread is to discuss an east coast ITR meet. Expo does not have be the only itr meet of the year.
Id definitely be interested in attending this kind of event.

Oktoberfest is a we-todd-did-racing track meet. Generally it's held at CMP, one year was at VIR and I don't know where it was last year as I did not attend.
Every year it's the same complaining from people that Expo isn't near them and it should be by them. Why should the group as a whole cater to someone who doesn't even make an effort to attend or has never been to one?
In regards to the actual topic of this conversation, instead of trying to start up your own track event/meet piggy back onto something else. Since it's new it'll be a lot of work and you may not get the attendance you need to put a deposit down let alone pay for the event. Pick a track and then find out what organizations run there. Find out if you can get a group discount if you bring in x amount of honda's or whatever. Then just piggy back off that regular track weekend to have your groups meet to coincide with it. Andy has done that with we-todd successfully for years.

HyperFest last year was almost a mini ITR meet/track day... I think DoesSpike wants to do the event again at least, dunno about the rest of the ITR people that drove last year.
It's at Summit Point and for the people that don't wanna track there is the car show/icy hot stunnaz part of the event as well.
And for getting a cheap track day at Monticello, good luck. You aren't factoring in the $$ that is needed for Emergency Workers, Flaggers, etc.. It adds up

I'm up for a some what local track day I need to get the CTR back out. I missed last years expo due to work and need to hit the track again so this summer I plan on hitting as many meets/track days as I can keep me posted
I think everyone knows that Expo is the end-all Meet and HPDE event for ITRs each year. If selling a kidney to bribe the boss/wife and have some gas monies left over doesn't cut it, guys should keep an eye on the Events and Meets section on ITRCA. Every year, there are a number of events we try to hit. Just last year we organized drivers for WMHM at Gingerman, NSXPO at VIR, HyperFest at Summit, Watkins Glen with PCA, a couple CMP events and Roebling Road.
Good luck on putting something together at Monticello

PA ITR meet usually happens in the summer in PA. But this past summer's may have been the last one. It'll be in Honda Tuning in two months or so.

You said Expo does not have to be the only ITR meet of the year. I'm pointing out the fact that it isn't. I listed three of the biggest one's that aren't Expo and all happen to be on the east coast. If you're referring to "other obligations" do you think none of us have those? While there are other meets, Expo is the biggest and probably best ITR centric event every year. The committee gives us plenty of notice to plan vacation time from work and to save money if need be. I'm sure Edwin can chime in on how he has a family and obligations and blah blah blah, but yet he's been to 12 out of 13.
