thanks
Your new clutch may come with the tool. Some do. Meantime-it is NOT a good idea to do a clutch without some sort of pilot tool. If you can find an old input shaft for your model tranny-that would be the best way, otherwise rent the tool.
ok.... the way ive done it is get a long 3/8" drive extension and put some electric tape on it and use that........ and just to let you know IF THE TRANNY GOES ON.... IT IS PROPERLY ALLIGNED! so if it bolts up your all good! good luck!
You can pick up the alignment tool at any auto parts place for about 2 dollars. Just get one and make the job easier.

You can also get a generic adjustable alignment tool for like 14.00 at most local pep boy's/napa/autozone type stores if you dont like the tape idea.
i have gone to 3 ******* auto parts and none of them carries ******* clutch alignment tools... anyways u can still use a long extension with a 3/8 unsiversal joint on the tip.. that its basically as tick as the shaft... and shuold put it right close to where it should be.. when u insert the tranny it will aling itself..

Most places carry a universal one, I tried doing it without any tool just by eye and ruined the splines on one clutch, luckily I had another laying around but otherwise I'd be screwed. Invest the $15-20 in the tool.
well the thing is these parts stores are stupid, its not an alignment tool its called a Pilot tool or something with pilot, i went to one parts store and they knew what it was, and the other i was lookin at the screen while they were doing it and they were like we dont have it, and i was like its the pilot tool, and it actually was.... their not very intelligent at some of these auto parts stores.....
ive seen it done many times without a tool, but i figured it was worth it to buy the tool, so i just invested my $15canadian towards a tool, its gotten its money worth, all my friends bring their cars to my house when they need to install a new clutch now, lol
Just an fyi, the alignment tool that comes with most aftermarket kits does not fit. I ended up buying one for a ford pinto to install mine.
I took the old clutch and bearing to the parts store and they checked all the ones for the hondas, and they even pulled the complete clutch kit and the one in it did not fit my clutch or the new one in the box.
Pinto's rule

this is cake .. just put the clutch and flywheel and everything on.. but dont tighten it all the way.. then get it to where it looks centered .. then slide the tranny on all the way. the get a long extension with your 12 point and ratchet and and tighten the bolts through where the starter goes. when its time for the next bolt just spin the pulley on the other side of the motor back and forth to where you need it. it works ! good luck.
i have tried lots and lots of auto parts stores with no luck as well. i've eyeballed it once, and i guess i was lucky enough for it to have worked. I've since picked up the universal/adjustable one, that works just fine.
