Default Possible differential problem? Im stumped..

I have 91 Acura Integra, was driving today and all of a sudden there was a knocking coming from (what sounded like) back behind/down under the headunit area.. Could hear it but not yet feel it. I started heading home when all of a sudden it went from knocking to a banging/rumble. So bad to where I pulled over immediatly. I noticed it only did it when I was accelerating, not when I was idling.. At first I thought it could maybe be a shifted axal or something along those lines, but like I said, it only does it while accelerating and not when im not in gear and rolling, so I ruled that out. Help me! Input is greatly appreciated.

Best bet is to jack it up and start grabbing thing like the axles and see what is out of place. Give everything a good shakedown.

Early cable transmissions have really weak differentials and can suffer diff pin failure but theres no point in jumping to any conclusions yet.

Had the same issue with a B16 S1 cable transmission. It would go away by putting a new (freshly reman'd from autozone) axle in it (passenger side), but would come back anywhere from 500-3000 miles later. Pretty sure it was the diff. With the front tires off the ground, and the car in gear, there was ~30* of slop between each wheel when rocking one side back and forth. Most of that seemed to be coming from the diff, I think it's called backlash. I have a newer diff from a LS trans that Im gonna put in and see if it solves my problem.

You can usually find them for $50-100 used on ebay.
