Default D16Y8 dead cylinder

I just picked up a 98 EX 5spd today but it is running on 3 cylinders. The car idles a little rough but still drives excellent and has plenty of power. I am very surprised how well it drives considering one cylinder has no compression. My question is if it turns out to be a valve problem can I just replace the head? Do I really NEED to rebuild the entire motor or can I just swap a good head onto the block? I don't know much about this but I do know how to swap the motor. I am trying to avoid having to swap the motor outside in 10 degree weather! Thanks guys

So you did a compression test to determine it has zero compression ? more then likely just a bent/burnt valve you can pick up all 16v valves for 80$.

Yes I did a compression check. It was 160/0/120/150. How bad is that?

I forgot to mention the engine sounds really smooth and pures like a kitten other than a little misfire at idle. I just don't see how there could be major engine damage if it still runs and drives well. So you think I can just swap the head out for a good used one?

120 is below the service limit I don't see how it can sound ok on 3 cyl's tho, but if that's easier for you then replacing the valves then yes that should do it. More then likely a burnt valve(s) when it's just one cyl that has 0 compression or warped.

If you have access to air you can try a leak down test and pin point your issue
