02 Accord stays running w/out key
Hi folks, new to the forum and I wonder if I can pick your brain on something.
My 2002 Honda Accord DX has been having issues since 2014 began. I just bought the car 9/2013 and it's only been in the past month that they've been surfacing.
Initially, the car began having the flashers and all dash lights kick on without any key in it. It would also activate the Honda Immobilizer system, barring me from even turning the car over. It later started with a spare key but the flashers and dash would continue to kick on. My uncle is a mechanic and he helped me take the secularm security system out of it.
Since then, on 3 occasions the battery has been completely dead and requires a jump. Also, not always following the jump, lies my main problem. The car will stay running as I shut off the car and pull the key out of the ignition. I have to disconnect the battery and unplug the distributor cap wires to get it to shut off. Upon reconnecting the battery, the immobilizer system and other dash lights are activated, again with no key in the ignition whatsoever. At this point I don't know if it will kick off when I reconnect the battery to return home from work.
Has anyone else had any experience with this type of issue?
