2014 SFWD Turbo EG rebuild Scott Oates\Zero 4 Racing
After the 2013 race season came to a close for us with IFO Las Vegas in December, my engine and transmission were removed from the car to finally get down to a long overdue refresh for 2014. The current engine has been in the car for a few years now and has held up nice. Our Zero 4 Racing team has been really happy with the results over the years and hopes to continue the success in 2014. The current Zero 4 Racing 700+hp GSR Turbo SFWD EG hatch has run a best of 9.5 @157mph during the WCN event held in Bakersfield, which put us qualifying in the number 6 spot. But our stock transmission just could not hold all the power and gave up on us at that event. We made it back out for IFO Las Vegas in December but were eliminated in the first round due to qualifying high in the field. In 2014 we are looking to top that personal best and hopefully make more power. I will give feedback on the new Skunk2 parts that are going on the car and I am sure the new Grams Performance injectors will make a world of difference in tuning, performance, and drivability.
Here is a recap on what the previous set up was:
84mm GSR block with a B16 Head and CTR cams

I'd have to agree on the burnout sound but non the less looking forward to better results for you this year!
Thanks everyone for the responses. I remember that event at Fontana helping your friend out. That is what this stuff is all about. We don't need to be hating on people and not be willing to help out our fellow racers.
The car is on s300, but uses the burnout limiter from the msd box. It does sound very similar to motec, but I would need to get three more full time jobs to afford that...lol.
Shannon, we are the lil guys haha. We are building the motor tonight so it should be ready in time.
Again, thank you to all that have helped and are following along with this rebuild. See you all at the track :-)

The Skunk manifold and fuel rail are awesome looking! Plus once I installed the Grams Performance 2200cc injectors with the fuel rail it even looked better. I am trying to get the car finished for Bakersfield race this weekend, but time is running out. More pictures will be coming of the Grams performance injectors that I have installed and some more pictures of putting the motor together.
Thanks everyone again for the feedback and looking at my build.

well i was just referring to what tepid mentioned. A lot of guys i know started having Launch control/"antilag" issues when it started to be an integrated feature. Its not a very customizable feature. I also noticed it became much harder to build boost from a stand still.
Glad that you are coming out there also. I told John that he just can't show up for 30 min, talk trash, and then leave
It should be a good time and hopefully great times from the car. You need to come out of retirement and make an appearence with your CRX and show these people how a real girl can drive and break them off!!!!

We will be there for the event...we found a sitter and are super excited to be back at the track supporting everyone...especially you! Good times to be had with my favorite pies and clams!!!!!!
In response to SPOOLINmatt, however semi rude I do think your entry to this thread was I certainly am forced to concur. The S300 soft limiter definitely isn't the best deal, the way we got around that is basically using the MSD box in conjunction to take care of the burnout and launch controls. It helped a ton, when we ran the S300 alone we had issues exactly how you described them. Thanks for the input and checking out the thread for sure!
Hell yeah Nalani, you know we are your biggest supporters and are looking forward to seeing you too! It's unfortunate I am stuck talking to your teabag husband all the time so it will be awesome to finally get to see you and talk to someone who actually knows what they're talking about hahahaha! (You know I had to drive the bus over John, c'mon now!) Seriously we are really looking more forward to the food when your family rolls out with you HAHAHA!
See you all in Bakersfield,

Update: The rebuild was a success and the fabrication looks great. There is still a lot to do to the car, but it made it to Bakersfield. The car made 700hp on only 25lbs of boost where on the previous set up we had to increase the boost to almost 40lbs to get that same number. So the Skunk2 cams, Skunk2 IM and TB, Grams Performance injectors, Portflow head work were a success.
We were going to increase boost but ran out of time in the dyno. The car ran a 10.0 @ 120mph. The low MPH was due to getting off of the throttle at 7.8 sec due to traction issues and coasting to a 10.0. We will be ready for IDRC @ Fontana on April 12-13. Below is a picture of how the car looked previously and thanks to Street2Track for the awesome picture of how it looks now!
