Timing belt components + labor Under $700, is the price too high?
The mechanic offered to replaced the valve cover gasket, crank seals, tensioner, timing belt, water pump, & idler, for close to $700. Since he's supplying the parts, it will come with a years warranty. The parts will be OEM.
I had the belt inspected at around 145k miles, and the mechanic, a different one, stated it was "good", without telling me how much longer it would last; charged me $45.
The integra was bought at a dealership, with 139k+ miiles, & had 2 previous owners. The car is now nearing 170k, I'd like to keep it to at least 200k.
If i supplied the parts, the labor would be $500+.
Similarly for a v6 Highlander with a belt i need to be changed, the mechanic estimated, with hydraulic tensioner included $1000.
I asked him about performing a transmission fluid drain/change, & he told me I shouldn't mess with, unless I needed to.
I live in the DC/Baltimore metro area.

If you lived near me I would do it for parts + $100 :D
It's really not that hard of a job, are you sure you can't do it yourself?

Go online to find a local (to you) Honda/Acura club and sign up/register.
Ask if anyone knows a person that has changed a timing belt before.
Here's my list of parts for my 2000 LS. I reviewed it with the mechanic when we agreed on a price ($250). I bought the parts online from bernardiparts dot com

Another point is, the mechanic seems like the kind of man that believes in preventative maintenance without tricking me into coming back to do something that could been done/prevented in a previous labor. On a side note he charges $25 for an oil change.
Last mechanic I went didn't know to make sure the brake slider pin was properly set, & bam, I had to come back a year later and decide to replace both of my front rotors/brake, which could have been simply avoided... Plus its not just the timing belt I'm talking about here...

normal price...it is extremly easy but then again i have no AC/PS TQ-mounts or belt cover so the job time is reduced. All in a spent a little over 300$ for my belt/tensioner/water pump/misc items. 700$ is fair i'm used to seeing 800+ and don't even go to the honda dealer $1K+.
http://www.team-integra.net/forum/bl...nt-g3-teg.html look threw this before you decide to drop 500$ on labour i was scared to do it when mine snapped but i got some tools and did it. Tips:jack and jack stands required, air gun highly reccomended or a 3/4'' drive 19mm socket and 4ft breaker bar and a crank pulley holder 60$ at part stores.

$700 parts and labor is a normal price. I wouldn't listen to anyone telling you this is an easy job.
It's easy if you're fairly seasoned and comfortable with working on cars. Also, its a job that absolutely needs to be done correctly. This isn't something I'd recommend anyone just jump into. With the amount of "what happened to my timing???" threads, my point can be proven valid pretty quickly.

Thanks for the comforting responses.
Hopefully once my belt is inspected and turns out to be fine for the next 10k+ miles, I'll look into getting new tires. Hankook Ventus V2 205/50/15 seem to be the best price performance ratio.

Got the timing belt and such fixed. Turned out the water pump was going bad, and such the engine would have eventually began to overheat.
The following incident was a God send as well: https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-6/will-quarter-panel-paint-keep-getting-worse-peeling-off-6-mo-after-repair-3192528/
Taking the money and putting it towards mechanic repairs.
New Hankook tires (205/50/15, as opposed to stock 195/55/15), labor, plus a steering wheel alignment will cost around $500 total.
