Default 97 ek mini me swap questions

So my brother in law bought a 97 ek coupe. Stock bottom end with a y8 head. We do not know how its suppose to be done but it was running on the stock ecu so we picked up a p2p ecu and put that in.

We can't get it to pass inspection. Since we swapped in the p2p it is throwing a cell for the evap and we can't get the primary o2 to get ready.

Before we swapped to the p2p the o2 still would not get ready and neither would the egr.

We removed and cleaned the egr thing under the fuel rail. Still wouldn't get ready. Replaced the rear o2 because it was busted.

Which o2 sensor should we be using with the p2p ecu? Both front and rear. Idk what kind of wiring harness is in the car currently. I think it's the stock harness. Should we switch to a y8 harness for the p2p ecu? And remove the egr and get a y8 Mani? Trying to get this sorted out. Any help is welcome.

P2P doesn't use an EGR. What trim is your Civic EX, HX, LX, DX? Sounds like its an HX if it has an EGR. If so you're going to have to do a few things. The HX uses a 5 wire O2, you'll have to convert it to 4 wire. How do you know its a Y8 head? What does the block stamp read?

The head stamp is p2j its a y8 head I'm not completely stupid. We have been reading we knew about the o2 but we assumed we could just switch to a differnt wiring harness? We knew the egr system had to be removed but we will need a y8 manifold right? And yeah I'm pretty sure its an hx.

You do realize the Y8 (EX) and Y5 (HX) heads are identical and are both stamped P2J? The only difference is the valve train (see pic below Y5 have roller rockers). If you use a 96-98 EX wiring harness and use a 4 wire 02 you should be fine with the codes, however you'll still have an HX head and using the P2P ECU will be meaningless.

Y8

Y5

He changed the valve cover gasket I'll have him verify. Didn't know that. We went by this.

And I had assumed the previous owner used the stock intake Mani and it required the egr.
