Just bought a 93 civic VX with its D15Z1 Motor. Last owner says that the OEM Cat Converter is clogged, and thats whats throwing the CEL on the cluster after running the car for about 5 mins? Then after having the car on for awhile there starts to have this burning smell from the engine? Ive been told a clogged CAT wont throw the CEL it could possibly be the o2 sensor? please reply if you can help THANKS!

 

there is not 2ndary o2 on obd1 cars check to code to see what exactly it is.

 

Yes, check the code. In order for the ECU to throw a code for a CAT, it needs information from the secondary o2 sensor. As B_Swapped said, OBD1 (pre 1996) cars do not have a secondary o2 sensor (which is in the CAT).
