99 si/gsr swap won't start - timing?
Here's the scenario. I drove home from work and as I hit v tech to get on the free way my car made a weird noise and it bogged out. I drove it for a few miles and it died. After it died I started it and it ran but only for a few seconds then it died. I put it in gear after it starts but it won't go. The cluster is throwing a battery light when I start it. Had to get towed home. After I got home the cat would crank but won't start. The crank is a lil faster then usual. When I pulled of the free way after it died and I started it it didn't make any knocks..the car just wwouldn't go and would flash battery light a few seconds and die. I checked oil water and fluids and its still good. No leaks no nothing and timing belt is still in tact. Do u guys know wat it could be? This is my firstt dd project. It s a 99 si with a gsr swap. It ran for three years no problem but no its dead. Pls help. Thanks guys.
Test your alternator. You'll need a voltmeter.
Car off, test across the battery terminals. What is the reading?

Ignition on won't help - you need the alternator to be spinning to test it's function.
So your car tries to start, but doesn't? Do you hear the main relay engage and the fuel pump pressurize when you turn the key to ON(II)?

Battery light could be flashing just because it is stalling out when you start it... we're you riding it hard when it happened. It kind of sounds like a air or fuel problem to me throttle could be not opening all the way or at all and it's choking it self out. Could be a sensor...not familiar with the lay out of your motor but check any air/fuel sensors for being loose or dirty and check the voltage. It's usually little things that your forget to check that are the problem I had a gti that wouldn't turn over changed out the ignition switch and starter before i found out it was the clutch safety switch on the pedal that fell off lol
I tested the car and there's sparks firing from all wires. When I turn on the ignition, I can hear the fuel pump and it does engage but when I go to start it it won't turn over.I checked the throttle and everything is still intact. The throttle rotor is still there and in tact. I will do some more tests and get back to u guys. Thanks.
When you say it won't turn over, do you mean you only hear a click when you turn the key and the motor doesn't crank at all, or is it cranking just not firing?
If it's not cranking over at all that's usually a starter problem.

Starter engages but it wont catch. Thinking its.my timing but if It is then why my belt is still intact but wouldn't that mean my valves would be bent and I would have to take the head off to replace the bent valves? Info pls
Timing can get messed up without snapping the belt. It could be stretched or some other thing to cause it to jump a tooth and **** up your compression by having valves open at the wrong time. Under this scenario the valves would not necessarily but could possibly be bent.
I bet you're gonna have use electronics diagnosis tools and check voltages of stuff and junk like that.

You can't test for spark if the engine doesn't crank, so you really don't know if there's spark or not.
Charge or jump the battery to whether the starter cranks the engine.

Ron he stated the car does crank. Have you checked the backup fuse in the engine bay fusebox? Check main relay? Do you hear the fuel pump priming?
Try again but this time put your foot on the pedal just a bit to give it a bit more air.
