Default MR2 or Integra GSR

Hey guys im debating between an mr2 turbo(91-95) or the integra gsr(98-01) which one would be a more reliable car that is easy to work on. I know they are both fast from what i was reading on at least i just want to know which will be something that wont be a pain in the *** to work on when something happens to it. i do plan on doing maintenance on it of course as every good owner should do i just want to know which would you guy think will be more reliable. Thanks!!

an MR2 will be x2 the price of a gsr being RWD and all, 216 hp vs 170 also I had a s14 before my teg and RWD cars are a pita to work on at times. all up to how much you have and what you want to spend Honda are duper easy to work on.

i was looking the mr2 turbo are about 5Gs the same price as the GSR i just want to know which would be better as a daily car because it would be my daily car i wouldnt mind minor problems because my uncle is a mechanic but i would just like to know which would be more reliable for anyone who has experienced both cars.

MR2s are fu$#ing awful to work on. A 20 year old turbo car's reliability is going to be awful too. I don't care that it's a Toyota. Obviously, the integra is going to be cheaper/easy to work on/more reliable/less maintenance.

As far as speed goes....the MR2 might have a small edge at first if everything works (ha!).

If you're buying a MR2 Turbo for $5k, chances are good that its beat pretty bad. As far as DD goes, the Integra has rear seats, better MPG, a real trunk, etc since it's a fastback/sedan and not a sports car. Insurance is going to be cheaper. Idk where u live, but FWD is easier in snow. Tires, brakes, and other parts are cheaper for an Integra as well.

As stated the MR2 is going to be a pain in the *** to work on. Go with the GSR.

That's what popped into my head, a proper(if you could call it that) MR2 goes for 8-11K here so when I say 5K not even once. also RWD drivetrain loss+heavier curb-weight so they're probably close. Sold my s14 cause it was too much of a pain for me when I first started with cars, had a sr20det blacktop tho !

Yeah...my first car was a 240SX that I had swapped to SR20DET back in 01 or 02 in highschool. Nice car. I loved it....and then my mom bought me a hatchbox to use in the winter. Never looked back since lol. It's been all Honda all the time.

I say integra but obviously I am bias because this is an integra forum.

Unless your gonna put a k20 turbo in the mr2

Gsr will be cheaper to mod.

good luck getting a fridge into an mr2 (or saving some $ by sleeping in it at a rest stop, slept in mine for 2 nights/week for 6 years- you do the math). hatchbox ftw!

The GS-R is more practical* and spacious than the MR-2, is less "HEY LOOK AT ME! I'M A SPORTS CAR, OFFICER!", and it won't try to kill you with snap oversteer when you screw up.

*The sedan's trunk is large but shallow. It holds stuff but not as much as my friend's Civic.

Here's what I've owned:

91 Mr2 Turbo

88 Mr2 NA

91 Mr2 NA

After all of those Mr2's, I don't think I'll return to them at all.

I'm now 30 and my taste has changed and it's getting very hard to get used to the outdated pop-up lights, ford-probe front end look, and otherwise plain-vanilla interior of the Mr2. My turbo Mr2 was fun, listening to the turbo spool behind your head is really cool.

However, at this point the bad far outweigh the good with an Mr2.

At least with a GS-R you can aim for 98-01 and have something that much newer.

The Mr2's do not rev' as high so it isn't as fun as a GS-R if you ask me. A GS-R will net better gas mileage, easy to find repair parts, easier to work on, better looking (that's *my* opinion though), more space, more practical in snow, the list go's on and on.

The "Rare" factor is fun in an Mr2 but I'd sooner buy a Miata again if I wanted a small impractical car that seats two at that price range. And if the budget would allow, I'd buy another Rx7 but perhaps with an LS1.

My friend owned a TypeR and I loved that car. Don't forget the steering feel and shift action is nicer in the Honda too. Some don't care but to me it's a big deal. Between that and the "never ending" rev feel of an "R" motor I'd definitely look for an unabused GSR.

Be patient for the right one.

Obviously you're on a Honda site. We all love our Hondas. What stage of life are you in? Can you work on cars? What do you know how to work on? I'd say these are significant factors.

Either way, Both are going to be hard in a stock form... and trust us... You want them stock. (or close to)

Mr2 turbo is a very cool car, mid engine and rwd Integra gsr is a fun econobox(don't be offended, it is a econo car. If you can't accept this as a fact you're lying to yourself.)
The gsr will most likely be cheaper to own and by far easier to work on. The aftermarket for Hondas is huge!!! Integra is waaaayyyyy more likely to get stolen lol!

I'd have to disagree, there are waayyy more Hondas/acuras on the road, a huge percentage of which are huge riced out loud obnoxious pieces of **** . Almost every mr2 on the road I've ever seen are stock or lightly modded, no huge loud fart can on a automatic ls integra with a unpainted body kit lmfao!!!

True, but a lot of Civics and Integras were sold in non-sport trims to people like your parents. It's still not as loud as a bright-red two-seat sports car with the engine near the rear wheels.

The cops are still a bit suspicious though. A squad car followed me home once and I'm 100% stock.

More common with civic's thus why I sold mine, it's less with integra's heck head over to the civic sub-forum and you'll see what I mean.

There are so many EVO X MR's out there for $5k. A brand new EVO X is more likely to have problems than a 20 year old Honda/Toyota, BTW.

Drivetrain loss? Please elaborate. There's no driveshaft in an MR2 because the engine sits in the back, so in essence the engine/tranny/diff/axle setup is similar to the FWD cars, minus crap like tie rods and CV joints.
