I popped off the side molding from the dash board and I see a lot what looks like surface rust doesn't look to be bad but I am worried it can turn out to be a problem. My question is, is this bad enough to warrant taking the whole dash off and checking underneath? Should I clean it off and if so how would I go about cleaning it, a wire brush? Is there some type of coating I should put on it after I clean it off to prevent it from happening again? It was caused by the car leaking I believe but that has since been fixed and shouldn't be a problem.

 

They all look like that. I wouldn't bother doing anything with it.

It's surface rust. Totally normal. Since it's covered by plastics, Honda just puts cheap, raw, unfinished metal down there.

 

I don't know, that does look pretty bad.
Look through the hole in the panel and you can see it goes on behind it too!

I would at very least, OSPHO it to convert the rust (iron oxide) to iron sulphate.
Maybe 3M rust defender?
What does everybody else think?

 

It's completely normal. Nothing to worry about. It's SURFACE rust.

 

well, yeah it happens to all of the hondas...however, i DO use converter and a sealer on any exposed parts when i do work in that area, just for peace of mind.

 

Mine is like that too. It's normal. Every car is pretty much like that.
