1994 Honda Prelude s gear ratio
Hey guys,
This may be a stupid question, but knowledge is the key to success. I just got a 1994 honda prelude s as a project car and the gear ratio seems to be messed up to me. Is it normal that to go from 1st to 2nd gear, I need to shift at about 2500 RPM and same from 3rd to 4th gear? How can I change that? I do believe that I shouldn't be shifting until about 4000 RPM. I could really use someones help with this.

Is it an automatic?
cause if its a manual, this has to be the dumbest question I have ever seen hahaha.
You need a shift kit to make automatics shift harder at higher rpm's. Not sure if they make them or not for preludes, and it is something you will have to have a shop do unless you feel comfortable busting open a auto trans. Which from the question Im assuming thats a no.

It is a manual the previous manual I had I was able to shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear at about 4000 RPM the car I have now I have to shift at about 2500 rpm I'm trying to make it to wear I can shift the lower gears at about 4000 rpm like my old car
well i know that but once it reaches about 2500 rpm it begins it more difficult for the car to switch gears the car stops hopping around and sounds like its stuttering

if you're engine doesnt rev to at least 7,500 rpms in first, second, third, fourth, and 5th gear then you have engine problems not transmission problems.

this!
ok after doing a couple adjustments on the car such as the intake i can make it to about 5000 rpm before i shift but its making a grinding sound now. Any advice?
The best advice any is going to give you is have it looked at by a friend or someone who knows what they are talking about. Not being rude, and I know we all have to start somewhere. But before you can fix things, you need to know how they work.
Before you can fix it you need to find the problem. Before you can find the problem you need to know what to look for. Different things can give the same problem.
Based off of the info given by you there is no way anyone can help you. Without you giving us the correct detailed info we need to asses the situation, its just going to be a guessing game.

Drain and refil the transmission with new MTF. Also, check the clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder if you have a problem shifting.
If the engine is only revving to a certain RPM, it's no longer a trans problem
