I have a 1996 civic hatch cx with a b18b1 swap. I recently swapped in the motor/trans and a new Exedy Stage 1 clutch. The car starts now, but when I put the car in gear and try to get it into first gear nothing happens. The car does not move forward, in fact when i had the car in first, i took my foot off the clutch to see if it would stall and it did not. I've checked the shift linkage and everything looks correct, any help at all is much appreciated. Cheers

Try adjusting the clutch master cylinder? What happens when you push the clutch in? All normal? Is there some pedal freeplay at the top of the clutch travel? There should be about .25"-1" where the pedal just flops and does nothing. If that play isn't there, the clutch should be adjusted.

The clutch feels normal to me, but I could definitely try bleeding the air out more. There is play at the top of the clutch travel, I would say a decent amount. How do I adjust the clutch MC, or what do you mean by that?

With the car off, can you shift through the gears without using the clutch? What about with the car on? If your speedo doesn't move, that means nothing is getting to your differential, which means it's either a clutch or transmission problem, not an axle problem.

Air in the lines will cause a disengaging problem. The clutch is not hydraulically engaged. So air won't cause an engagement issue.

Did you put the throw out bearing on correctly? The clutch fork should easily wiggle without the slave cylinder bolted up. If it doesn't, the clutch wasn't assembled properly.

Check for a stuck slave cylinder or master cylinder as well.
Try this:
-jack the front wheels off the ground
-put the car in 1st gear (car off)
-remove the slave cyl. Disconnect the hydraulic line. Put a pan down to catch the fluid
-start the car
Does the speedo move now?

Ok so just did another test. The speedo does move when i shift the gears (clutch pressed), so i was wrong about that. Also, when the car is off i can move through the gears just as well as i can with it on.

So... now I'm unclear on the issue....
Before the clutch was not engaging. Now it's not disengaging? The speedo is moving....but how fast. When you rev the car in gear, does it shoot up or does it kinda stay fairly low/slow movement?

Btw, if the car is up in the air, it's fairly normal to row thru the gears without pushing in the clutch (car on). Doesn't take much to synchronize gears without the wheels touching the ground.

By stating that the clutch will not engage, I'm referring to the fact that when I put my foot on the clutch and put the car in first gear, then give it gas while releasing the clutch it does not move forward.
When I give it gas when it is in gear and not in gear, it does shoot up rather quickly. The car is not on any type of lift, all four wheels are on the ground.

Checked the passenger side axle, seated properly. Checked the driverside axle, about an inch out of the differential. I feel like an idiot, but thanks for the help guys. Truly appreciated.
my speedo moves and rpm rev up theres a very slight grind noise like something isnt engaged all the way. But i can go through all gears with car running and not touch the clutch and wont budge. My car is a 91 accord i pulled a manual trans out of a 94. I went from auto to manual.
