Default 98 honda accord ex 4cyl vtech

1998 Honda Accord 4cyl VTECH engine

Car Starts fine but once it hits 3000 rpm it stalls/chokes wont go past 3000rpm. It is not tranny as that was done 6months ago. I just did some work to car changed crankshaft seal. Timing was put back the same. I did some google researching and seen this does happen and people have change all kind of parts to no success, it starts and runs great except when you get to 3000 rpm will not go past it.

That being said, we have already changed alternator, MAF Sensor , TPS, Checked timing, changed distributor, distributor cap, new plugs, the only sensor we have not changed is the IAC. IAC is expensive, so we cleaned it and still doing the same thing. Can anyone tell me what this is? I really need some help here.. please.

do you have any CELs or engine codes?

sounds like the timing is off.

Check your oil level first. If the oil is low there will not be enough pressure/volume to engage the VTEC pressure switch. If the pressure switch does not close, VTEC solenoid will not engage and the engine will choke ~2700rpm.

Check for codes next. Verify the CEL light works when the key is turned to II(ON) if not then the bulb has burned out, and the easiest way to read the codes is via a OBDII code reader/scanner.

I've had this problem about 8 months ago. I got it checked out but the mechanic couldn't find out what it was. So I just drove it as is and after a few weeks it went back to driving regularly. Just try accelerating slow. Thats what I had done for the while.
