98 Honda Accord - No Spark
Hello everyone,
I am brand new to this forum.
I got here by trying to find a solution to this Accord that I am working on.
Hopefully someone can help me figure this out.
This is my friends 1998 Honda accord which doesn't start and I figured it has no spark. So I inspected the distributor rotor and cap it was bad and replaced it.
Then after it still didn't work We replaced the whole distributor (including Coil, ICM). I also tested the voltage on the harness going into the distributor (one wire has battery voltage on it)
Other things I have done is .. checked all the fuses, checked to see if there is spark directly from coil to ground when key is switched ON and OFF.
I dont know if this is a coincidence or what, this whole thing started when he lost the key for it and started using the spare one. So we also went to Honda dealer and got the new key made.. But no Luck.
Now I am thinking .. may be a Crack Position Sensor ? or is there anything else I could check ? timing belt is farily new on this car so I dont think it is the issue.
I need some ideas here please, and let me know if I am not including some information that you guys need.
Thank you.

Re: 98 Honda Accord - No Spark
do you have a flashing key light in the dash? it may need to go to honda and the key get recognized.. that sucks but i do beleive if you call honda they will give you the sequence of things to do to start it.. or maybe i can find it.. it may be in your owners manual.. i had to do this to an odyssey i did a motor swap on once..
you had to turn on off 3 times and flip on the lights or something and then lift the ebrake and it would start.. something like that..

Re: 98 Honda Accord - No Spark
Hey thank you for the reply.
I just had the key made by honda today. Gave them the VIN number and the spare key we had and they made the key for us.
They said "We read the code from old key and transfered into new one"
What kind of code is this ? I really can't believe this normal looking key has some electronics in it to store code.
But like you said, there is a Green KEY sign that flashes when I crack the engine.
Let me go try your trick right now (ON/OFF three times).. and I will post the
result in few minutes.
Thank you

Re: 98 Honda Accord - No Spark
Sorry , It didn't start and I don't have a manual to look at.
It still does have a green Key light flashing.
I even tried waiting 1 minute after I did ON/OFf three times.
I think I read somewhere before for different car that turning the ignition ON and wait for a minute will disable the anti-theft or something.
Is there anyway I can deactivate this ?
Thank you
