Default Distributor and wiring question

So I'm in the process of replacing my distributor and came across a wire coming from the battery that is spliced into the blue wire in the wiring to the distributor. All of the videos online that I have seen don't even make mention of this wire; anyone have any idea what this is? Do I need to splice it into the blue wire on the new distributor?

What CAR/ENGINE/MODS?

In most cases, the blue wire in the distributor provides the rpm signal for the tachometer.

Shouldn't be necessary, i'd pull it, sounds a bit "rigged" up...It usually is run to the driver side as an rpm tach signal on cars pull the signal from the dizzy and not the ecu...
