Failure in TPMS on 2005 Pilot
My otherwise excellent mechanic sprayed a leak sealer into a tire with a small puncture that could not be fixed with a plug. This must have gooped up the tire pressure monitoring sensor (TPMS) in that wheel. Immediately after pulling out of his lot there was and is still a yellow TPMS light (a different light than the red TPMS light that shows which tire is low) that is always on.
Since then I had all 4 tires replaced and lost track of which tire it was done to. By letting air out of each tire and observing the red lights, I have been able to locate which wheel it likely is now. Three of the wheel sensors still seem to work and one does not (and now I know which one). I am going to assume that the non-functioning TPMS sensor in that wheel in the reason for the orange TPMS light being on continuously. Am I correct to assume this?
Does anyone have experience cleaning/fixing a single TPMS sensor like mine that has been exposed to leak sealant/goop? I haven't looked up the cost of a single in-wheel TPMS sensor yet, but for those of you with experience here, would you try to fix it or just buy a new one?
Thanks,
Tom
