I have a b16 with a p28 ecu.
At times my my car will lag before reaching 4k rpm.
once i hit 4k rpm the car picks up quick (like a mini vtec) then the vtec crossover at 5k.
When this happens i have to cut the motor and cut it back on then its back to normal. It's annoying and I don't want this to lead to bigger problems.

I don't think that ECU goes with that motor, then again, you've not given enough details to properly identify a major issue, so :/

unless its a chipped p28 you are running on a SOHC vtec stock tune which doesnt help. you either need a p30 or a chipped ecu with a p30 map on it

 

Lemme guess. You just bought the car and know nothing about it?

p28... Great and all, but is it socketed with a chip that has a basemap for that motor?

If the motor is running off the correct ecu, then look into the standard tune-up preventative maint parts.

 

im having similar problem but when i hit vtec range i lose power and back fires. oil is good, solenoid tested and works what else can i check?
