Default oil pressure light comes on

hi, I have a 99 prelude SH, and the oil light comes on when it's warm and only when it's idling.

My friend a mechanic couldn't find where the sending unit is. Where is it located?

Oil pressure will drop when warm... Pump may be failing, or loose clearances all over. Put thicker oil in and see if it changes. FYI that is not a fix

He checked near the oil filter and couldn't find it, but he will look again. I have the SH model, could it be at a different place on the SH?

As far as the oil pump goes, I cannot find one. Are any available somewhere and are they something that can be replaced?

on any vehicle it's going to be below the oil filter

it's not easy at all to replace an oil pump especially if you're not mechanically inclined(they have to remove the oil pan in addition to the timing belts) ... if someone is going to replace that it would be best to do a full timing belt side overhaul(seals and possibly belts, possibly water pump) ... this assumes nothing has been replaced there before(outside of the belts of course)

first thing's first...check for a dented oil pan...this is the first thing you should check after stopping the car immediately after pulling over when the oil light comes on, after checking oil level obviously

If you can't find it by Saturday, shoot me a PM and I will go take a picture on an SH block I have sitting in my garage.

Oil pans don't get dented on later year Prelude's, they use an aluminum pan, it cracks or breaks instead.

I don't see how you can't find the oil sending unit, they look the same on every single Honda engine, single wire sensor with a rubber boot over the connector. You should be checking oil pressure at this location of course.
