H&R springs on Si
Hey guys,
What are your thoughts on the following set up?
('07 Si sedan driven primarily on Boston streets)
H&R OE sport springs paired with a new set of KYB Excel shocks/struts.
Or maybe same springs with a set of Skunk sport shocks?
What do you guys think? The aim is to drop the car and improve the handling, but not over do it.
Thanks

You should look into the koni strt shocks, better upgrade in shocks IMO. They can be bought for around 299 which is a great deal.

Thanks for the input guys. That is exactly what I did today.
Called Chris at Best Suspension (what a great guy!!!), and ordered a set.
I already have the H&R OE sport springs downstairs. I have a new pair of stock upper bearings and boots, isolators and bump stops. Plan is to put everything together and then do a straight swap now or later when the weather gets better up here in Boston.
I highly recommend talking to Chris. He is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I look forward to having a quality suspension set up in my '07 Si. Should have done that in the first place. Oh well. Live and learn as they say.
Happy New Year everybody.

KYB Excel-G and Koni STR struts/shocks are OEM replacements. They're equivalent to Tokico Blues, which are the broke ricer's favorite aftermarket struts/shocks. They're not designed to handle lowering springs, especially ones that lower your car more than one inch. If you're looking for proper struts to use with your lowering springs, get the Koni yellows.
Strt are the same as koni yellow on full soft. So they are much different than just an oem replacement. Op is using springs with a .75 drop on what sounds to be a daily driver, so a fully adjustable shock is just unnecessary. But I'm sure the extra 150 was the reason he went with the broke ricer shocks

The way Chris from redshift describes them, they're nonadjustable koni yellows on full soft. He told me when I was shopping that he would consider them an aftermarket version of the HFP shocks and that they're designed to work with mild drop springs. From my personal experience I can tell you they are not oem replacements like kyb.

This is definitely a daily driver. My goal is to get a mild drop from the springs and a good ride from the shocks. I think this combination will accomplish that.
From what I've read on the Koni site these struts/shocks will work with lowering springs.

Hello everyone. Update on the suspension install.
Well I did it. I installed the H&R OE Sport springs with the Koni STR.T strut/shocks last Monday.
The ride is perfect! The car handles very nicely on the Boston streets and highway driving is superb. The combo is just right on the stiffness and looks. The car is not dropped the way it was with the Eibachs. I like the H&Rs much better.
The Konis are so much better than the Skunk crap! I couldn't believe the amount of rust on that crap that it's just a year old. I called Skunk and of course the customer service is follows their crappy product.
Chris at Best Suspension is awesome. Great guy. Very helpful and he knows his stuff. Highly recommend visiting his site.
Looking forward to the spring and summer driving ahead.

Do you guys know the proper sitting of the spring on the lower strut perch? Is the isolator guide nipple sitting on the high side or lower side of the strut perch? Also, anything to watch for on the upper side where the bearing and top plate is?
We just bought a set of SRT's for our crx and am using H&R race springs. I don't want to start a whole new thread but the lack of instructions from Koni is a bit disturbing. I am not exactly a tech guy but thought I could install them fairly simply.
The metal sleeves that come with the shocks are a different diameter than the stock sleeve, do you simply replace the stock sleeve with the Knoi one?
It also comes with two very thin nuts that I just can't figure out where to use. Are these meant for adjustable shocks and simply come in the package regardless?
Is the stock bumpstop adequate for this set up?
We were running KYB's on H&R sport springs but want something a little better for our race car without breaking the bank...
Any and all help is appreciated.

The thin nuts are for the top mount....use them as jam nuts to replace the single nut on the stock setup.
What metal sleeves?
You will need to cut the hell out of the stock bump stop. CRX's aren't known for their suspension travel. You'll be doing a lot of bumpstop riding since, IIRC, the h&r race springs are pretty low.
You should try the CRX or suspension forum.

I've dealt with him personally as well, very knowledgable about 8ths. Update this thread after the install.
