1999 Accord V6 coupe idle after ignition
Hey guys, its been a while since my last post but I have a problem.
My 99 Accord V6 coupe sometimes shuts off right after ignition. The rpm gauge will shoot up on ignition (which it normally does) and then come back down for a reasonable idle. But sometimes it struggles once it comes down and just shuts off the car.
Should i use some kind of fuel injector cleaner? I feel like the fuel line is clogged because once I press the gas and go up to about 4000 or 5000 rpm and let go, the idle stabilizes.
The same thing used to happen about two years ago, and then i switched from 91 octane to 89 octane and the problem went away. Now im thinking about using 87, but it seems like kind of a ridiculous solution.
Let me know what you guys think the problem could be and what I could do to remedy it.
TIA

If it only happens when the car's hot/warm, you're likely going through the same vapor lock that I had. It's most common on 2000's but think it happens to all J30A accords 98-02. From my understanding, it's a combination of the FPR, fuelrail(lack of return), and ECU that is the issue. You can remedy the issue by starting with resetting the ECU (disconnect battery and reconnect it), but that won't solve it.
There's an updated FPR you can try
and finally, there's an updated ECU with the software for the new FPR (not sure if the 01-02 are updated). You can also lower engine-bay temps to avoid fuel vaporization. New thermostat, taking out hood insulation, hood spacer, etc.
I'm in SF and this happened to me too, noticed it was winter and temp-related so I took a look. Most likely the "winter blend" of gas that vaporizes at a lower temp, but since resetting my ECU I've gotten away without anything additional.
