Icon2 Auto VS Manual ECU

Someone said that car with automatic ECU has advanced timing tables as compared to manual ones to compensate the power loss in torque converter operation.

Other than managing the Transmission what are differences among the two. Talking specifically for 98 accords.

Generally, an engine with an AT the engine may have a broader, but less peak, torque and horsepower curves. This allows better usage of the torque multiplication of the converter with the automatic. Camshafts may also be different. F20B Blue tops have different peak power outputs depending on if its an AT or MT car. AT cars were 180BHP and MT cars were 200BHP.

The ECU needs to match the engine. If there are dramatic changes to the engine then the ECU needs to be retuned to match these changes. If the ECU is not stock to the engine it needs to be retuned. Period.
