From: Howcome we park on driveways, and drive on parkways?
So I tried to search and it seems that with so many advancements in technology and wireless transmitting there are some newer options out there that offer some good options for security for our caRs.
So one that seems to have up to a ONE MILE range with the transmitter (range is never accurate i feel like) is the Viper OLED 2-way security and remote start.

Seems it can be had for around $450. In reading it looks like there are sensor points that can be independently monitored as well? I've got a few ideas on where to place those.
I would not have the remote start enabled bc I would worry of accidentally hitting the buttons to starting it even though there is a button lock on it.
Another one is the Python 911. Seems this unit can be had for around $250. Also claiming a one mile range for remote response. Does have a shock sensor but doesnt show sensor monitoring like the Viper unit.
I would really love to have monitoring capability of the Viper unit on my phone. That would be the icing for me on that unit. They do offer a iphone compatible unit, but it doesnt seem to be as advanced as the unit i posted.
Im planning on a few other security measures as well including a boot.
Does anyone have a more recent purchase/install/upgrade they wish to share?
Thanks guys!

FYI the same manufacturer, DEI, produces Clifford, Python, and Viper. Each brand has their own little touch and series of models, but they are all basically the same electronics with a different title and look.
As with any alarm, the important thing is the install. A $500 alarm but a generic install will be useless, and might even make the car easier to steal.
The big picture is the alarm is just one layer of protection. A single layer will not be very effective in preventing theft. You need multiple layers that add time and effort to steal the car to help deter theft.
Some good reads:

-Cause for Alarm
