last night on my drive home, I noticed my speedometer jumped up 10 mph and back down to normal and then the car completely shut off a few seconds later. i was thinking, is my car getting possessed? lol. i come to a stop, stick it in neutral and it fires right back up. Heard a lot of clicking like the main relay coming on and off and the car turned off again. i ended up driving all they way home holding the key so it wouldn't turn backwards enough for the car to shut off again and it worked. whew..

when i purchased the car, the previous owner already put another ignition switch in because he said the original one randomly cuts off while driving and now i guess this one is wearing off too. previous owner gave me the old ignition switch too (looks like product #1). not sure what i can do with that one.

i have two questions for those that have experience with this problem.

1. which one do i need to buy?



2. i already have two different keys, 1 to open the door and 1 for the ignition. is it possible to rekey the new ignition switch so i my car only uses 1 key again?

upon more research, it looks like i only need this part and not the part the key goes in. let me know if i'm incorrect.

part came in this morning. installed it. car no longer requires me to turn the key past the 2 mark for the dash lights to come on
