Default 2000 Honda Accord V6 Coupe Check Engine Light

Have a 2000 Honda Accord V6 coupe with 160K. Got an check engine light and threw code: P0401 EGR insufficient flow.

Going to get the EGR kit with sleeve and new EGR valve. Clean out the throttle body and change throttle body gasket.

Since I'm going to take so much stuff apart, wanted to see what else I should do at the same time.

Got the timing belt replace at 100K, but was thinking I should do it now again. So replace timing belt and drive belt. Going to replace the spark plugs as well. Should I replace the ignition coils? The coils are original factory with 160K on them.

Thinking of replace the water pump, thermostat, and coolant. Water pump is original factory so now has 160K miles on it. Still has original radiator....should I change it now?

And lastly change out the Front and Transmission Side engine mounts. Side mount by power steering pump was changed out 2 years ago. Been feeling the vibrations on the steering wheel now.

Biggest question, what else should I change out or replace? Will probably keep this car for another 5 years to reach 200+K miles. Hope the transmission lasts as it's been shifting rougher now.

Thanks.

So you are saying that the water pump WASN'T changed when the timing belt was replaced? You sure? Because that is sort of a standard thing most shops do.

If your going to the T-belt then you should also replace the tensioner and the water pump. Those two item like Fitz was saying is pretty standard for that type of service. Coils aren't needed if they are still good. As for the EGR stuff my years at Honda I never had to replace the EGR Valve itself. What happens on the V6 is that the port on the intake manifold becomes clogged so you can just clean that out and I don't know the size of the drill bit but you just hog of the port a little bit more and if the EGR was still good I would just spray it off with cleaner and slap it back on to save customers a few bucks as long as it wasn't a failed part because that can still happen.

Yes, the water pump is original, never changed. At 100K, tech said it looked good and will last. And he was right, no issues now at 160K. But will change it out this time since i'm doing the EGR.

Anything else to make the car run smooth again?

Thanks.

Check your drive belts also. If you wanted to check the trans fluid. inspect your cabin air filter depending on where you live you should replace those for better A/C function and smell. Also perhaps a fuel cleaner additive in the gas tank to help clean the injectors out a bit.
