Default Please Read!!! Big Question!!!!

This is the biggest question i have...... we always talk about it, but no-one really knows the advantage of a Lightweight flywheel........ what does it do??? other then rev faster........ does your Q/M time get a little better and if yes by how much with stock engine?? does it put more horsepower to the wheels??? does it give you more torque?? what does it do????????............... sorry for posting this, i know theirs more posts about this, but we always talk about yea its better, but what are the reasons??!!!

A lighter flywheel decreases unsprung weight which makes your engine work less for the same amount of power, thus increasing both hp and torque. It will have the same effect as lighter/smaller wheels, lighter/smaller brake rotors, and other spinning parts.

a lighter flywheel DOES NOT decrease unsprung weight. or was that sarcasm?

sorry, i read what you had typed wrong. forgive me!
although a lighter flywheel isnt neccasarily the best idea for a lot of street cars with 4cyl's. youll get a peakier torque band, etc.

no it does not. It does reduce rotational mass.

Isnt rotational mass unsprung weight? I thought that all things that move are unsprung, while all things that dont move are sprung.

Nope.

The unsprung weight of a car includes everything attached to the bottom of the spring/suspension usually wheels, brakes, tires, sometimes lower suspension parts, etc. Its stuff normally resting on the ground u could say, while the sprung mass is above.

Rotational mass would be the flywheel, clutch, axles etc. Wheels and tires would ALSO be considered rotational mass as well as unsprung weight.

A flywheel is sprung weight and a rotational mass.
