Default Cat Confusion

So, I'm throwing a P0505 and a P0420. I was looking at cat replacements, and it seems there are two for a 1998 lx? One small one attached to the header (which replacement is both parts in one) and another longer one further back under the car. My car is at the transmission shop right now, so I can't really just run out and look at it. What parts would I be replacing?

Edit: Upon further inspection, it seems to just be a difference between the EX and all other models, so I am looking at replacing with

. Thoughts?

the one with the cat integrated into the header or else your 2ndary o2 will not be able to reach the cat.

Thought about that, but I still have to pass emissions here in NC

oh...poor guy.
then replace each one.

or try to get a header and delete one. you wont get a CEL but not sure if you would pass emissions. 2 cats on a 4cyl is rediculous

Your LX model uses the cat that is integrated into the header. The link you posed is correct. You will need a new cat to get rid of the CEL and pass emissions.

When I got my car I was having a P0420 as well, and ended up replacing it with a cheap eBay aftermarket one for like $170 shipped. People say they don't hold up much more than a year or two, but mine has gotten me through 2 emissions tests so far. Mine is a 97 LX as well, with D16Y7. Mine looked more like this:

Everything was already integrated / welded and connected together into one large piece.

^That's what I did for a friend's 01 Civic. Its been going for over 3 years now with no CEL. The quality however between selections on Ebay will differ. The one I got was from a seller from Tennessee if that helps but I can't remember the username.

May want to fix the P0505 first. It could indicate a mixture problem which could be causing the P0420.
