Default How important is the Crank Position Sensor?

Hello, HT. I'm here again making another post lol. I have a 1994 OBD1 GSR in my 1999 OBD2 EK (converted). My dizzy went out, so I had a friend who said he could get me one. He ended up getting me one, but it seems like it's an OBD2 (obd2a?) distributor off a '98 GSR. The mounts on the dizzy DO NOT line up except for one of them (top one), but the plugs fit each other fine.

In OBD1 distributors, the CPS sensor is inside the dizzy. The obd2 dizzy i got, however, does not have a "built in" cps sensor since obd2 GSRs have them by the crank pulley. Now, my car did not turn on with the obd2 dizzy but it felt like it wanted to turn on (engine was turning). My friend said he can make it work though and claims he has made it work before. He will be coming by tomorrow to time it with the timing gun (he also thinks i didn't put the spark plug wires in correct order and thought that's why it wouldn't start).

So, how bad or how much of a fail would it be to not run a CPS sensor IF my car is able to run with the obd2 dizzy?

Read that, then tell us how important it sounds. Cliffs: The CPS is VERY important. Don't ghetto-rig it.

Its not a GSR or a bseries VTEC distributor. All of them bolt up just the plugs differ. You probably have a B18B distributor or Dseries. OBD2a and OBD2b distributors are the same with exception of D series in 99-00 having a different plug altogether. Also the crank position sensor has always been in the distributor, you're confusing the crank position with the crank fluctuation sensor.

What? Did i really just read that? OP, just get the obd1 dizzy. The CPS is a vital component in the ECUs calculations.

Oh alright. Yeah, i think i got them mixed up. There's a lot of misinformation out there so forgive me lol. The one I got was straight off a 1998 B18C1 integra. i was so confused as to why they wouldn't line up. I ordered a brand new OBD1 gsr dizzy anyways so I shouldn't have to worry about mounts not lining up anymore.
