Default How I wound up w/ 97-0092

I've been a fan of ITR's since they first came out, but have never had one. I started getting serious about it about six months ago, but decided I wanted something I could put some work into to learn more about them at the same time. I found a few for sale, but then found this one on the IAAI site.

After I found it I made a call to the office and found out it had been set for abandonment, so I made it my mission to get a hold of someone there that could help me more than the people that answer the phone that are very quick to dismiss anyone. I managed to get a hold of the manager, who was very cool, and told me what date it was set to be sent to the dismantler, and to call back then. And the story of why it would not be auctioned.

Fast forward a month later, and I called in and everything was set, and if was ready to be sent out. I then called the dismantler and immediately looked at it, and bought it. Have just had to wait for the last month for the lien sale paperwork to come through.

If you frequent the graveyard thread, and have seen it, you'll know it needs everything. So In the meantime I have been buying some things here and there to be able to start working on it. So far I have a cluster, wing, mirrors, rear console, rear seats, and a front bumper and fenders I found on Craigslist MD, and will be boxing up when I get there in two weeks for the holidays ( I had my dad go pick them up). I also have all the non carbon dash pieces to put in for now I got at pick your part, but will do the carbon pieces later on.

So this will be a build thread for the car. I plan on putting it back to pretty much 100% stock. And am excited to get it finished, and drive an ITR for the first time.

My girlfriend just took delivery of the car at home, while I'm stuck at work, so on to pics as I get them.

Congrats on the pickup, enjoy the experience. Plan for the best but prepare for the worst in terms of the rebuild. The rebuild process is fun, tiring, expensive, a learning experience, and a lesson in patience, but you will always look back on it. If you have any questions along the way please feel free to share. Best wishes with the project.

Ok. So no carbon. Perfect.

Got a rear seat and it has metal prongs/hooks on the front on each side, that aren't the same width of the two tabs I see in the black stamping. Different year seat? Can I swap out the tin piece?

Just read up on that. Going to either find the bracket, or bend the tabs and just use the 10mm bolt in the rear to secure it. No one will ride back there so shouldn't matter.

Congrats on finally getting hold of heR. Another one rescued.

I have the same issue with my JDM seat bottom. Have not decided what to do yet. Either bend the tabs or get a USDM seat bottom. I do not want to take the stiffening brace out either.

I decided to bend the prongs back, and it sits fine. Just need to get the bolt in the rear to hold in in place.

Rumor has it that insurance denied the claim. Theft of own car type of deal. Owner was told to pick it up and never did.

And some updates from last night. When I got home the GF had already washed it, and vacuumed it out. I was pretty quick to put the wing and mirrors so it looked a little more the way it should, and pulled off the front bumper and fender to throw away.

Then rolled heR into the garage.

And finished off the night swapping out the ignition for one I got w/ a complete key set while waiting for it to come. hooked up power and door chimes, and I put the JDM cluster in so it has some life. And put all the vents, glovebox, and clock in.

oh damn. already re-keyed most of the car to the complete set I bought. But I will hit you up on some OEM parts.

Will the CD player have a security code? I need to charge the battery a bit this afternoon to check that.

Yes, CD player will have a security code. If it is indeed the original radio to the car, a dealership should be able to give you the code with your VIN #.

Good luck with the rebuild! You're off to a great start

lol can not stress this enough
the VIN # has absolutely no correlation with radio code must have radio serial # on the radio hit me up with it and I can give you the code

Damn, that's a good story on persisting through until your goal is achieved! Is this a restoration, custom build, etc?

Yah.. I'm pretty good at being persistent but friendly. Why I was a purchaser at my work, and now sales.

Planning mostly restoration.
