Default Need help going from OBD2b to ODB1

Okay so about a year ago I started my project car.

It's now my daily driver. 98 CRV 5speed. I installed a 99-00 JDM B20.

What was done... CKF trick to remove Check engine code for CKF sensor as JDM engines don't have the CKF sensor.

Reused the 98 Intake as the throttle body on the 99-00 engine was missing the throttle cable holder and I could not find one therefore I went with the 98's Intake.

reused the 98 Distributor as the 99-00 JDM engine had a different Connector that wasn't compatible with the harness.

Here is why I want to go to OBD1. I feel like the car is out of tune, it runs fine but I don't get the best of gas mileage, granted I have a lead foot but I should be seeing better than this.

The main reason is I have EVAP problems and I have already dumped a couple hundred bucks into the EVAP system only to still keep getting a check engine code after ~25 miles past ECU relearn.

I am also getting a cyl 1 random missfire issue which seems to only occur after quite a while beyond a ECU reset it could be a multitude of things however this whole frankenstein setup isn't helping.

I want to go to the simpler OBD1 and possibly just have the car tuned to where I can finally just get rid of all this heartache on my daily driver.

So far the car has been great and runs great, good power, solid steady idle.

What all do I need to go to OBD1? who do I talk to about having it tuned and where should I go to get a ECU (what ECU do i need?) and the conversion harness?

You will need an obd2a-obd1 conversion harness. The ones on eBay with the red plugs are ok. Or you can spend a little more and get one from rywire, wireworx, etc.

Any obd1 ecu that's chipped will work, but you can probably save a few bucks and get a non vtec ecu (po5, po6, p75)

It's also in your best interest to pick up an obd1 LS distributor and conversion harness. You need the crank sensor signal to the ecu.

is ebay my friend on this?

also this CRV is OBD2b, does that make any difference other than the harness conversion I will need?

No, a 98 crv is obd2a. 99-01 is obd2b

Normally eBay isn't the place for good parts, but in this case you can get decent stuff. Of course the name brand conversion harnesses are better quality, but the eBay parts get the job done just fine.

I guess it's possible. Then the only thing that needs to change is the A to B in all that. Lol
