95 accord sedan fuel pump replacement?
Hey there everyone I'm doing a bit of side work trying to get some extra cash together and I think I may have taken a pretty big bite here. A friend of mine has a 95 Honda accord ex sedan with the original f22 with an auto tranny. A little over a week ago he called me up with a no start issue after he got off work. He doesn't have anywhere to work on it and isn't very mechanically inclined and asked me if he got it towed to my place if I would diagnose/fix it for him he offered to pay me on top of everything because he doesn't trust any shop at all. I agreed and he had the car towed to my house. I started by giving it a once over, I tried starting the car, it cranks but no start. I further investigated and realized the fuel pump wasn't priming when the ignition was turned to the "on" position. I did some reading and I saw quite a few posts about the main fuel pump relays going out so I proceeded to break out the multimeter. No voltage past the main fuel pump relay, I checked the fuse associated with the relay and it was good, I then proceeded to call it as the relay went out. He bought the relay and I hooked it up and still just crank with no start, fuel pump still isn't priming. I have heard by several mechanics that Hondas generally have very good pumps and rarely go out but could it be possible that this one is defective? What all else can I check before condemning the pump and if it is the pump how do I replace it? I didn't see any access panel in the trunk unless I overlooked it, I would hate to be forced to drop the tank and do it that way but I will do whatever needs done. If anyone has a link to someone who's replaced a pump in a 4 door 95 accord Id love to see a link I couldn't find one anywhere. Thanks all I hope to hear back soon, I need to get the car running as soon as possible so any input is appreciated.
Ok thanks ill look into that how to, and yes It is sending voltage before the relay, the new relay gave me voltage up to the fuel pump so that's where it must have been shorting out. Also I discovered what on first glance appears to be a bit of sugar right below the gas cap..... I think the story tells itself, so I fear I'm going to have to drop the tank anyways to clean out all the **** that's in there..... Ill keep everyone posted and I will try and take as many pics as possible and maybe put up a how to when this is all said and done.
