Icon2 b17a1 build up questions

Hello,

I have many questions regarding the b17a1 in my 1992 GSR. This is my first honda/acura, and I do not know much about them other than what I've learned surfing the internet for hours on end. I am looking to put a turbo in it. I want it to be able to to handle 25 or so psi, so what parts will I have to install? Although I spend a lot of time searching google, I find it difficult to find parts for this rare engine. Where should I shop for turbo kits and which ones do you all recommend? Is ebay a good route? What pistons, rods, and crankshaft should I use? Should I have it bored? Where can I find these parts? Where in Oregon can I have it professionally tuned? My budget will not be an issue.

Another question, Where can I find a thermostat for the radiator and where do I install it?

Thank you!
-Paden Tyler

ebay turbo kits are **** don't even consider them. 25 psi you're going to sleeving the block if you want those numbers along with LOTS of money into internal upgrades.

Where in Oregon do you live?

More importantly why are you set on running 25psi? Your horsepower goals would be a better understanding of what you need as far as a build goes. Don't blow a bunch of money where you don't need to.

As far as tuners go. James at 808 does good work (I've been to his shop a few times) Max from MaxMotors in Eugene. Portland Speed Industries, etc etc.

Your thermostat is on the passenger side (looking from the front of the car) kinda under the distributor. Just chase your radiator hose and you can't miss it.

thank you MyEgHatch, My hp goal would be around 500whp, I would say I have about 200 now. I live in corvallis right now and am constantly running up and down I5, so Eugene would be a great location! and thank you for the thermostat info. I will no longer have to flip a switch manually whenever the engine gets warm

made 400hp on my 197kxxx bone stock b17. Just a good turbo kit, exhaust and a good tune.
Don't skimp on ebay turbo parts, clutches or other intricate parts.

What mods do you have that have you near the 200hp range.

The only eBay part you could possibly get away with is a cast (not tubular) turbo manifold with the Wastegate port in the collector portion of the manifold. Other than that I would stay away from most parts. I have a friend here in town that has a EMUSA turbo kit on his 01 GSR and, it's holding up for right now. But he is upgrading as he's going along.

If your ever in the Medford area you can shoot me a PM and I can help you out in person.

First, get numbers, boost, hp, etc out of your head. Build the car with a goal in mind, ie. drag racing, road racing, weekend track car, street car, daily, etc.

That will better help you select your parts and make sure you do it right the first time around.

Sure Ebay parts catch your eye due to their price however save up and spend wisely. It will help in the end. EVERY big build will have things you need to fix/correct after you get it running, it's just how it goes.

With that said, not many companies make rods for the B17, only one I am familiar with is Crower and those are around $800.

Once you give me some details I can give you my .02.

My DA last made 435/275 on pump:

Ls Vtec
Eagle H beam Rods
CP 9.1 pistons

Built and ported head
stock GSR cams
Skunk 2 ti Valve springs and retainers
Victor X manifold
Garret 61mm Turbo
RLD Ram Horn
Full 3 inch exhaust

Hondata s300
Manual boost controller

Pieced it together. Tubular manifold, (upgrading to top mount)
750cc injectors, (upgrading, they maxxed out on e85)
3" down pipe, full 3" exhaust, no cat, vibrant muffler
gt32b garrett turbo,
Was on a ebay 6 puck clutch, but that got smoked(upgrading to competition) from br fittings. I know it wouldn't last forever so, getting a b18a built.
Bets way to go for reliable higher horsepower.
