Default Camshaft Seal Question

When I'm doing the timing belt I'm going to go ahead and change the cam seal. Upon taking the oil rail and the cam plug cap, does the cap just pull out without removing the cam itself? Also rockauto only has 1 seal when I pick one, do I need 2?

I'm chaning the Seal because where the head meets the headgasket I see oil coming out between the head and the headgasket. When searching all i can find is "it may be the camsaft seal". LMK what you think!

Thanks!

If you have two cams, you need two seals. Also, we don't know what kind of motor you have but changing the seals isn't very hard BUT, you will have to remove the camgears which have very small timing keys that can fall down into your timing cover. Turn cams to say up and they will be up too. Also you MUST retourque the cam bolts correctly or you can ruin the whole project by a loose camgear or worse.
PS, don't scratch or marr the gears at all or belt will prematurely fail. Put a screwdriver into the hole and use a wrench to take bolts off/torque wrench on.

^ he's talking about the notorious exhaust cam seal leak....you'll just need one as the distributer sits on the intake side, it has it's own seal.

OK, that's a valve cover issue.

Got it from this link: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/b16-oil-leak-head-gasket-3032117/

That isn't a picuter of mine but its a simular one off another post. That's the only place leaking the oil. Yes I know 2 cams, 2 seals. But the end cap(exhaust side) with the seals on it is what im asking about; does it have 2 rubber seals that go around it or just one? Do I order one or two?

Put a screwdriver into the hole
What hole?

retourque the cam bolts correctly
You mean the rail bolts?

I'm borrowing some tools to get the job done, so trying to do timing belt and this oil leak fixed all in one so I'm not keeping the tools for more then a day, fyi.

Here's a picture of the endcap. I can't tell if it needs 1, 2, or 3 O seals?.

I got the picture from this link...

My motor is displayed below what I'm writting now.

I hope this link works:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...28DOHC+VTEC%29

See #8 in the diagram. That's the seal which usually needs to be replaced on account of an oil leak in that region. You can tell that's the source if you find oil seeping out at the 6:00 position of the plug. After it seeps out it will keep on going downwards until it reaches the head gasket area.

I have a Honda Canada document that describes the correct replacement procedure. Can send to you if you provide a valid email address.

The plug can be removed after you remove the cam carrier related to the plug. Before loosening the carrier bolts, you MUST turn the engine so that the lobes at that end of the camshaft are OFF their followers!

It's not adequate for these reasons:
1) It makes no mention of turning the camshaft so the end lobes are off the followers. If the lobes are on the followers, the camshaft can be distorted once the support of the end carrier is removed. Distortion will ruin the camshaft.
2) It makes no mention of making sure all the gasket/plug surfaces are 100% free of any oil, even a light film. Any oil at all will quickly develop into new seepage and new leaks.
3) It does not describe the correct procedure for applying Hondabond/Ultra Grey to the plug and its recesses in the cam carrier. Besides oil-removal, this is the most critical part, and it's described in the Honda Canada TSB.
4) It does not describe the correct method of re-sealing the carrier to the head, which involves the sparing application of Hondabond around the bolt holes, also described in the Honda Canada TSB.
