Default itr best spring rating for track??

Hi guys, I recently purchased a coilover system for my R, they are (eL sports on swift springs) front springs are 20kg and rear are 8kg which is an odd setup, I got these from steve at hmo. Can anyone recommend a spring rate perfect for track? Thanks in advance.

It's all preference. Stock Itr is great. I would recommend tracking for a few years on stock then choose a spring rate that suits your driving style. Most ppl discard the stock suspension because of the height which is dumb.

Disagree. Stock is great. If you want to track seat time is the most important thing.

Stock ITR suspension is actually pretty solid if you are just doing HPDE's. Most go out and buy bling which handles worse than stock or silly rates (ex: 20k). Both of these will increase the learning curve for the driver and set them back. In the end, seat time is money best spent.

OP- Different driving styles, car setup, and tracks are just a few variables that make your question difficult to handle. The previously owner presumably preferred a very bias spring setup. I would consider getting King Motorsports or another shop to shock dyno and see what rates the dampners were built for. That way you can match your spring purchase with the valving.

depends on the tires used

the tein h tech is a stock itr spring +15% and a hair lower, maybe 1/4 inch at most. if you want to go back to stock that's an easy way to do so. on utqg 300 tires it's not a bad setup with stock shocks or koni str.t

if you use 140-200utqg tires like the ad08 or new z2 you will want more spring and more rear rebound especially. somewhere in the range of 400-500lb/in with koni sports would be a good setup. you could tune rotation with the rate balance. i always liked 500/450 on the street. it's quick but won't come around on you in the rain unless you try to make it do so.

if you get into R comps or slicks rates go higher still and you should probably be talking to some of the guys who live at the track to see what they are using for rates on what tires

those could be gymkhana/auto-x rates. I've seen set-ups like that before.

nonetheless, coolhandluke is right, the shocks need to be dyno'd and revalved if you want to change spring rates. it might be easier to sell those and buy something else. common set-ups would be 675lb front and 785lb rear or vice versa. some like the stiffer rear to aid in rotation. Koni/GC set ups can be had for $1k or less.

i run the eibach r2 with 450F/550R setup. For street it's fine as well as track. I can get the car to oversteer fairly easily with throttle lift. From my limited track experience I'd say you'll want to a find a tire that communicates well with you as well. Get used to how that feels at various temperatures on track (morning vs. afternoon sessions)

since youve already gotten a new coilover set-up, how is that set working for you?

F20K R8K is definitely a gymkhana (autox) setup. Might not work too well on high speed tracks. And if the car sees any road duty, 20K is just silly.

So you already bought the coilovers *before* you asked this question?

I suggest that you search as this topic has been hammered into the ground.
