Turbo first or second? Advice, Opinions... Guidance Needed!
I am finally serious about getting a turbo. I guess my biggest question is should I work on the engine (Replace Cams, Cam Gears, Manifold, valve springs ETC) then turbo it or turbo it then work off the engine. I just want a faster car not anything that is running 11's or anything. Just something that can keep up with some v8's and turn some heads. I have B18C1 (48K) and looking to push around 5-7 lbs. boast. From what I have been reading this is ok on stock internals. Only aftermarket set up is CAI, Headers Exhaust.
Let me know I am interested in what others opinions are on this

It it were me going turbo, I'd forget about buying cams, intake manifold, and cam gears. You're probably better off investing in pistons and maybe rods too, if you plan on going turbo afterwards. The stock cams and intake should be fine.
alot of guys are making plenty power with a stock head. so yeah get the turbo and forget about the head. but if you wanna build something then build ur block.
What exact makes a turbo legal and illegal? I am not in California but in NC. We do have exhaust emission but its not as rigorous as California's. I noticed GReddys is street legal will others fail to note this.
What turbo should I get? I want a whole kit. Like GReddy, Rev-hard or Drag3
How Much boast can one run on stock internals with out gutting the insides?
Thanks for the help

i ran 10psi on my stock internals with the gsr engine, that is until i saved up enough money to build the bottom end right. with 7psi you should be fine though. as for the turbo, the greddy kit is too small, think fmax or drag3.

stock head/stock block, do the turbo first and do it right. if u treat it good it will treat u good and last a long time and give u many moments of joy haha. markC has been running a drag 3 kit on his stock GSR for over 50k miles in 3 yrs at 7psi. the head has never once been off, not even to change a head gasket.
Wow guys thanks for the help. No to the last problem. Passing Inspection with a turbo. What is it that makes GReddy turbos street legal and other illegal?
Just a reminder I am in NC where laws are not quite as strict as Cali. We do have emission testing. Should I worry?
