My wife bought her 2001 LX brand new. The only major work was done a little over a year ago when Honda replaced some bent valves. Shortly after the work was done I notice some oil in the drive way. Then a pool of oil by the cam seal. A mechanic says it was the valve cover gasket. So I go to honda and get a 01 valve cover gasket. Get home and it is too big. I go back to honda with the gasket and valve cover and he agrees. The part I bought was the last one so he referred me to the next closest dealer. I get to that one with seconds to spare before closing. The guy brings out the 01 gasket and it is too big like the one from the previous dealership. he looks at the previous generation and the 99 sohc civic gasket fits. Im like WTF....how does a 01 civic have a 99 valve cover. So now Im wondering was the gasket leaking because the valve cover is not right because a gasket shouldn't wear out in less than two years.
