Nope. Use the same two wire blue connector, jumper it, turn ignition key to II(ON) and codes will blink from the respective check light. ABS light will blink ABS codes, CEL light will blink CEL codes, and D4 light will blink TCU codes.

I found that the connectors going to the solenoids was bad.I hard wired them for checking purposes and it shifts just fine from 1st,2nd and 3rd.But no 4th or reverse gears. Before all this happened reverse was strong and good but 4th was slipping a bit. What could be the problem with reverse?

Recheck the connectors and electrical connections. If one connector was corroded the others are probably just as bad. Verify that the battery connections are clean and tight, and that the cable from the negative terminal to the transmission case is clean and tight as well. Verify fully charged battery.

Have you done the 'click test'. With the car off, pull the shift solenoid connectors apart. Apply 12V via a jumper wire directly to the shift solenoids. They should all click. If they do not click or sound lazy, remove the solenoids from the transmission and make sure the screens are clean and clear of debris. Remove the screen/o-ring from the solenoids and using the cut off tip of a Q-Tip(no cotton) manually exercise the solenoids. They have a very short throw so don't force them, just gently work them open/close. Verify that they click open/closed via battery voltage. Reinstall and recheck for shift issues.
