Default Thoughts on engine build

Hi, I currently have a JDM B18C but thinking about a little more power, was thinking along the lines of the following:

81.5mm B16B pistons (to raise compression)
92mm crank
Skunk 2S2 cams, ti retainers etc
TWM itb's (already fitted so may as well keep them)
Spoon 4-2-1 2.5" header

Would those pistons be ok or something better suitable? Car is a track car, any idea what power/torque this would make?

Search search search... Nobody is going to give you answers unless you show some sort of effort that you did some homework on your build. Start with a better list of parts, money you want to spend, and the purpose of the car.

P2V going to be too close with those cams you think?

The car is a track car, gets driven to the track so road legal.

You do realize running CTR pistons on a LS stroke is borderline...and you wanna add 3mm more stroke. Its going to take custom rods and pistons to make it work.

Those cams work well with a ls crank and b16 pistons. Way more practical. If you want torque that bad, build a B20V OR pony up the cash for custom rods and pistons so you have clearance to run big cams w/ that stroke.

By B16 pistons I assume you mean non CTR? I'm open to suggestions, I was looking at the BC stroker kits with the corrected rods to keep the r/s ratio half decent unless you'd recommend another brand? The whole GSR LS thing confuses me as not common in the UK just type r and B16A/B18, sorry for sounding thick! : )

You will need custom pistons with that crank

I mean B16 pistons as in Pr3's or P30's. Stroker kits IMO for a DD are pointless.

It's road legal but not a DD, just a fun weekend/track car, I read quite a bit about bearing life on stroker kits but these all seem to be about larger than 92mm stroke so I should be ok. I thought about going larger than 82mm bore but not many machine shops in the UK are familiar with sleeving these blocks so wanted to avoid that route if possible.

Nothing that you mention really compliments each other.92mm Crank means baller forged crank wich really doesnt suit PCT pistons. 92mm Crank means either Shorter Rod or Custom Pistons. That engine with S2S2 will be UnderCamed. That Header won't be any good in such a setup either.

Just run an 82x89 (b18a/b B20V crank) setup with RS machine PR3 pistons. It will be better for your cams and wouldn't require any sleeving. Still can make really good power with the right bolt ons with that setup also

Being OK as far as RPM goes is completely depended on you. Drag duty will be Fine yes, Street duty depends on you. 4th - 5th gear run any extended period of time above certain rpm will limit the engines lifespan immensly if not destroy it. What's the budget ? what's the intended use ? Weekend warrior really doesnt mean much. Highway pulls ? 1/4 mile racing ? You can get power from a 87x81 don't overstress with strokers.

Hmm you've given me a few things to think about thanks guys, it's mainly a circuit car but I do the odd 1/4 mile occasionally. It made 203bhp with a 2" exhaust, have a 2.5" header and system to go on now, this is on 99ron.

Found this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/p-r-e-82x89-lsv-dyno-3092090/ Could I keep my B18C pistons and just swap the crank and rods to the B20V crank setup with those cams or are they too high CR?

Your pistons will need some machinework to fit the LS/B20 Rods if i am not mistaken someone might clear that up, Also changing a crank on your current block you'll have to have it aligned. your BEST bet imho since you are from the UK and i dont think you get the B18A engines there is to go B20. Complete B20 Block , RS machines Pistons, ARP rodbolts. Its the Cheaper way and the machining work needed is minimal (Just resizing the rods for arp bolts).

Thanks, yeah I think I read you need to take 1mm of each side of the piston or rod cant remember which.
