Default Question about Pilot Bearing

I have an 06 ex sedan stick shift, with about 149,000 on it. Makes a strange noise whenever I accelerate. It stops whenever I push down on the clutch. I had a mobile mechanic/friend come by today to look at it and drive it. He thinks its the pilot bearing in the tranny. That sound about right? Its also more recently been at times a trouble to get it in first gear. Any help is appreciated.

Pilot bearing is not in the transmission. It's a small bearing pressed into the flywheel that the very end of the input shaft rides on. Are you sure your friend didn't mean the throw out bearing or the input shaft bearing?

Yeah I could have had the wrong terminology. Not very knowledgeable about parts. But it happens whenever I'm driving. Soon as I put in the clutch, it stops, and its shifting rough as hell! Grinds a lil every now and then too. Trouble is on a REALLY tight budget so need a good clutch thats not like 350 400 bucks.

Exedy OEM replacement clutches are under $200, but the labor is what gets you. If you can't do the work yourself, you could end up spending $400+ just on the labor. Don't forget another ~$50 to resurface the flywheel as well (if changing the clutch yourself). The clutch kit includes new throw-out and pilot bearings.
