Default 96 and 00 d16y7 intake mainfolds

Hello when I swapped out my bad engine in my 96 the new one was out of a 2000 and everything works fine but the 2000 intake manifold has a nipple on the drivers side back of it where the 96 did not. What is that nipple for? I have it plugged off and it seems to be running beautifully but I am curious what it is for. Thanks!!
