Default Street Tires

Looking for some good street tires for my 89 HB. 195/60/14 Falken Azenis sound really good to me...except for the hydroplaning and tread life complaints...Maybe Dunlop Sp sport A2s...Which Kumhos should i be looking at in this price range?? Any other tires??

I live in Texas, probably won't be doing any autocross this year, but sometimes I like to drive fairly hard on the street.

most street tires are meant to be driven like a normal cautious driver on the street, azenis aren't...or so i believe

JUST DON'T GET FIRESTONE'S!!! My jacka$$ friend who I got the car from had some firestone's put on that couldn't stick to a street covered in krazy glue. I mean losing traction while driving in the pouring rain is one thing, but these pieces of sh*t lose traction on any part of the road that isn't perfect. I sincerely hope that one day I meet the owner of Firestone so that I may brutally murder him with a rusty spoon.

... ok, I'm done.

do not under any circumstances buy Kuhmos. They are the worst quality tires i have EVER owned. everyone on here was on Kuhmos nuts last year, so i bought them like a sucker. Horrible grip, horrible wear, and extremely bad quality. To top it off, two of my tires developed huge eggs for no apparent reason. Absolute garbage. I would never buy anything from Kuhmo again.

My experiances were with Kuhmo Ecstas

I've been rolling on Dunlop FM901s for the last 3 months, and they are so far some of the best tires I have ever owned. I've had Yoko A008Rs, 032Rs, A520s, BFG TA-R1s, Euro TAs, Toyo RA-1s, Dunlop W-10s, etc... The Dunlops are not R compound tires, but they are better than any of the other street compound tires I've owned.

Now that I look, they are not available in 14". However, 195/50-15 is $50 each at Tire Rack.

i have kumhos on 2 of my cars and they do quite well in the rain. i only experience hydroplaning when hitting a deep puddle (>2") at 50+ mph.

that is the first bad thing i've heard about the kumhos. i have 2 sets on 2 different cars and i don't have any problems with them. you might have just gotten a bad set that slipped through quality control???

i daily drive on one set and they've last a good 10k+ miles since march with no abnormal wear.

i use the second set on my race car. they stuck quite well for auto-x unless its real hot out...then they got greasy like one would expect from a street tire.

Kuhmos being greasy is an understatement. rain grip is half decent though, they have pretty healthy water channels. the kuhmos couldnt hold a candle to the cheaper Cooper Cobras which they replaced.

i have a set of Azenis and I haven't really had any hydroplanning problems, except for going through visible puddles and a decent rate of speed. I drove from Columbus, Ohio to Chicago and half of the trip was in the rain and didn't have any hydroplanning problems. And as for the tread ware, I've put several thousand miles on mine so far and the tread is still really deep. They are excellent tires that I'd recommend to anyone. The grip on them is amazing in the dry and also in the wet. I have a rear wheel come up when I'm cornering real hard, and haven't had them break loosed yet. Plus you can't beat the price for that good of a tire.

Im rollin on 205/50/15 Azenis, this is my 2nd set and I dont think ill purchase another tire till something better comes out. Handling in the corners is great due to the stiff sidewalls and sticky tread. Drop the pressure to about 25psi or so and it hooks nicely at the drags, hit a 2.0 once on these, 2.1 usually on the 60ft, that is droppin at about 4grand on the blown engine. In the rain, this is another story, drive carefully about 70 on the highway and you will be fine.
