I've had this annoying bog problem about 3 times since I picked up my car Thursday, there's no CEL and it does not come on when this happens.

When starting from a stop,, it suddenly runs rough and idles around 500 rpm, I try giving it some gas and it won't go past 1000 rpm. The first time I shut off the car and restarted it and it was fine, the other two times I put it in neutral and let it sit, after about a minute the idle shot up to normal and acted fine.

Any ideas on what's happening?

Cars a 2003 civic ex 115xxx miles 5 speed

 

Anyone have some thoughts?

It happened again a couple hours ago and is really annoying

 

Sounds like there may be an ECU issue.

 

Grr I hope not, any way to check or test the ecu?

 

The only other things I can think it may pertain to, is clogged injectors (low likeliness), a sticking Idle Air Control Valve (medium likeliness), or a potentially failing alternator (low likeliness). You could inspect those other items first, and see if that doesn't alleviate your problem. If it doesn't, I'd say going through all of your corresponding engine electrics to find some corroded plugs or bad grounds... then maybe unplugging certain things to see if it triggers a CEL or not.

 

As soon as it stops freezing rain out I'll check the grounds and engine connectors
