High idle!
I just did the timing on a 92 and stupid me forgot to change the rotor position on the distributor and now when I start it it idles very high. How can I or if I can adjust it without a timing gun? I have no vaccine leaks, plugs are fine and plug wires are fine.
Do you mean you unbolted the distributor housing and moved it?
Or if you just like to finagle and futz about with a running engine, loosen the distributor after the engine has fully warmed up(fans turned on/off twice), and retard the timing til the rpms are at correct idle speed. But this method can be inaccurate as if there is another issue or the engine cools down, or the tachometer is not working properly.
Ya that's what I figured I could do with the crank and then position the rotor to the #1 cylinder. I just wasn't a hundred percent sure I that would work. I'll give that a shot tonight and if that doesn't work I'll be back here for some more advice.
It's normal for the car to idle higher when starting the car from a completely cold start. It will slowly lower the idle as the car warms up.
Don't forget since you removed the distributor you need to redo the ignition timing now. You will need a timing gun and there are several howto vids on youtube for how to do it. It's not hard at all.
