Default 1991 Accord "S" light flashing

Hello I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX wagon I was having problems with the "s" light flashing when i started to move checked the code it was a 1 which is for the lock up solenoid "A" my fix was taking the 3 10mm bolt out unplugging the connector and removing the screen gasket and cleaning it and using brake clean to clear the passages while grounding the case of the soleniod and applling 12 volts to one side of the power plug at a time then re-did it again with some wd-40 wipe it down and re-installed it now it works great no more "s" light flashing hope this help

Curious on how you cleaned the solenoid itself. After removing the screen filter, did you use/sprayed brake cleaner on the solenoid hole while grounding the case and applying 12 volts? And afterwards used wd-40 with the same process as that of the brake cleaner?
Im asking because im hesitant to use brake cleaners on electronic components. TIA

Solenoid is sealed inside the cylinder. All that you need to clean is the pintle valve which is actuated by the solenoid. Remove the O-ring seal and screens, look down the tiny port that has a black steel sleeve, that is the opposite end of the pintle valve, you can either manually actuate the valve with a rod to make sure it is not stuck and then blast the port with a cleaner. I've found simply exercising the valve open/closed a few times seems to free up any stickiness.

Thanks MAD MIKE, was able to clean both solenoids and even the NM & NC sensors. Both sensors were pretty clean actually when I pulled it out.
