Default drivability issue with b16a 2000 civic

I have a 00 civic ex with an obd1 jdm b16a. I did the swap a while back and haven't had any problems yet. today I was driving and it all of the sudden started jerking and shaking really bad and did not have any power. every time I got on the gas it would hardly accelerate and if I tried to punch it, it would just bog down and not go above 2000-3000 rpms. it is not misfiring, im a mechanic and know what a misfire is and its not misfiring. im kind of lost on this one though. if I hold the gas down sounds just like when you try to rev a newer car that has a rev limiter at idle and it wont go above 3000 rpms, and just bounces between 2500-3000rpms. while moving, if I push in the clutch and turn the key off, then back on and let out on the clutch to start it again, the problem is temporarily gone. it will drive fine for a few minutes and then start again, shaking, jerking, and bogging down terribly, to the point where it will just barely move under its own power. no codes which I find weird. does anyone have any ideas at all?

Sounds like your car is in 'limp mode'. This condition happens when there is an Engine Knock detected.

I believe a knock would be caused by the premature ignition of the air/fuel before a piston reaches the top of the stroke. "Detonation"

Limp mode would throw a code.

OP...does your check engine light work? Or is the bulb burnt out/missing? You might have a problem with the TDC or CYP sensor in the distributor. But that usually throws a light

I nearly spat my coffee out...

OP, double check the CEL works, with symptoms like this, it's hard to believe you're not getting anything.
